Detective Cliff Martinez Killed in San Antonio Hit-and-Run Accident at IHOP on Hot Wells

San Antonio, Texas (December 22, 2019) – A San Antonio SAISD police officer was killed Saturday morning in an accident in San Antonio, a local news source reported.

The accident happened around 4:40 a.m. December 21, at the IHOP on Hot Wells.

As per the report, Detective Cliff Martinez was off-duty and working security at the IHOP restaurant when two groups of patrons got into a fight. The fight spilled into the parking lot, and Martinez attempted to break it up. One of the people involved in the fight assaulted Martinez as he tried to calm the fight.

As the two suspects were trying to speed away, one of them ran over Martinez, pinning him under the vehicle.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. He had worked with SAISD for 28 years.

The suspect fled the scene.

An investigation is underway.
