Diann Simmons Killed in Marshall Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 59

Marshall, Texas (January 6, 2022) – A woman was killed Tuesday night in a wrong-way crash, two miles north of Marshall, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash occurred around 9:00 p.m., January 4, on U.S. 59.

DPS said Diann Simmons, 77, of Marshall, was driving southbound in the northbound lane when her Toyota Corolla was struck by a semi-truck towing a trailer.

The semi-truck driver, Lazaro Toledo Aviles, 26, of Spring, attempted to swerve out of the way before striking Simmons’ vehicle.

Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Aviles was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
