Donald Collins Killed in Dallas Crash on Interstate 30 near Second Avenue

Dallas, Texas (August 16, 2023) – A Good Samaritan was killed Saturday morning in a crash in Dallas, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 2:28 a.m., August 12, on eastbound Interstate 30 near Second Avenue.

Police said a red tow truck collided with a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, causing it to spin and face oncoming traffic. The tow truck fled the scene after the crash.

A Good Samaritan, identified as Donald Collins, stopped to help the minivan, and while standing next to the wrecked vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe collided with the van and Collins.

Collins was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the minivan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Tahoe driver, 33-year-old Irma Nelly Martinez-Leal, was arrested and charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle.

The authorities are looking for the driver of the red tow truck.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
