Donald Eakin Killed in Lubbock Plane Crash on East 37th Street near Avenue A

Lubbock, Texas (October 29, 2020) – The person who was killed in a plane crash Monday afternoon in Lubbock has been identified as Donald Eakin,59, of Hallsville, according to officials.

The fatal crash happened just before 4:00 p.m., on October 26, in the 200 block of E 37th Street near Avenue A.

Police said Eakin was piloting a single-engine Cessna Centurion in icy conditions when the plane crashed into the backyard of a residence. The plane then caught fire.

Eakin was killed in the crash. He was the only one on board.

The plane had departed from Belen, New Mexico, and was approaching Lubbock Preston Smith International when it crashed.

No one was in the home at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported on the ground.

The crash closed Avenue A in the northbound and southbound lanes. 35th Street was also closed.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
