Flavio Zapata Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash at US 190 and SH 137 in Crockett County

Flavio Zapata ID’d as Man Killed in Crockett County Truck Crash at US 190 and SH 137
Crockett County, Texas (January 18, 2019) – The man who was killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash which left another person injured at a Crockett County intersection has been identified as Flavio Zapata, 31, of Laredo, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal crash happened at an unspecified time on Tuesday, January 15, at State Highway 137 and US 190.
DPS said Zapata was driving a 2000 International tractor-trailer northwest on SH 137 approaching the intersection when he failed to stop for the red light and turned left onto US 190.
Patrick Wartenbee, 37, of Gulfport, Miss., was driving a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer eastbound on US 190 and when he saw Zapata pull out, he attempted to avoid the crash.
Reportedly, Wartenbee’s truck overturned, then jack-knifed, causing the two trucks to collide.
The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire.
Zapata was killed in the crash.
Wartenbee sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
