Francesca Norris, Yu Qiu ID’d as Victims of Gainesville Plane Crash near Gainesville Municipal Airport

Gainesville, Texas (July 29, 2019) – The flight instructor and a student who were killed in a fatal plane crash on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville have been identified as Francesca Norris, 25, of North Richland Hills and Yu Qiu, 22, a Chinese national, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened just after 4:00 p.m. July 28, near Gainesville Municipal Airport.

FAA said a Piper PA-34 crashed while preparing to land at Gainesville Municipal Airport. The plane crashed about a quarter-mile from the runway and it burst into flames.

Qiu was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the crash. Norris was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where she was pronounced deceased.

An investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
