Fred Gunn Killed in Houston County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 21

Houston County, Texas (November 28, 2023) – A Kennard man was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash in Houston County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 10:25 a.m., November 27, on State Highway 21, about seven miles northeast of Crockett.

DPS said Fred Gunn, Jr., 89, of Kennard was driving southwest on the highway when his Ford pickup experienced a blowout, causing the vehicle to drive into the oncoming lane where it collided head-on with an oncoming Freightliner truck tractor.

Gunn was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Freightliner, Tracy Lightsey, 57, of Fort Worth, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
