Gabriel Lopez Killed in Montgomery County Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 45 near Oak Ridge North

Montgomery County, Texas (December 29, 2020) – A man was killed, and two passengers were injured in a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning in south Montgomery County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 12:38 a.m., December 27, on Interstate 45, near the city of Oak Ridge North.

DPS said a 2013 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-45 when it crashed into a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Gabriel Lopez, 48, of Conroe.

Lopez was taken to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, where he later died.

A 12-year-old female passenger in the Chrysler was taken to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands in critical condition. A 45-year-old Conroe woman who was also a passenger in the Chrysler was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The Ford driver, Robert Earl Smith, 30, of Houston, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Multiple charges are pending against him.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
