Gary Garza and Roger Noriega Killed in San Antonio Rail Tanker Explosion at Alamo Junction Rail Park
San Antonio, Texas (May 15, 2019) – A worker was killed, and five others were injured Friday afternoon in a rail car tanker explosion near Elmendorf, according to the authorities.
The fatal explosion happened just before 1:00 p.m., May 10, at the Alamo Junction Rail Park.
Authorities said a crew at CRU Railcar Services was cleaning the residual crude oil from the tanker when it caught fire and exploded.
Gary Garza, 39, who was inside the tanker, was killed in the explosion.
A second worker, 42-year-old Roger Noriega, was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center where he died on Monday, May 13.
Four other workers were taken to SAMMC with burns and have since been released.
An investigation is ongoing.
