George Kenneth Ulibarri Killed in Amarillo Two-Vehicle Crash at Southwest 46th and Parker Street; Paul Vincent Chavez Arrested

Amarillo, Texas (May 29, 2020) – A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Amarillo, according to police.

The fatal crash took place around 3:40 p.m., May 26, at the intersection of Southwest 46th and Parker Street.

Police said Paul Vincent Chavez, 30, was driving a black 2004 Toyota Matrix southbound on Parker Street around 70 mph when he ran a red light and crashed into a tan 2007 Mercury MKX driven by George Kenneth Ulibarri,58, of Amarillo.

The impact caused the Toyota to hit a utility pole and flip onto its side while the Mercury hit a residence on South Parker Street.

Ulibarri was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chavez fled the scene. DPS Criminal Investigation Agents later found him hiding nearby in a shed, and he was arrested. The Agents had been looking for him prior to the crash, as he was wanted on a felony assault warrant.

Chavez was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is facing charges for his felony warrant, murder and an accident causing death.

Chavez has been booked into the Randall County Jail.

The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is investigating the crash.
