Infant Killed after Cement Truck Flies off Houston Overpass and Lands on SUV

22-Month-Old Dies After Cement Truck flies off Beltway 8 East and Lands on SUV in Houston

Houston, Texas (August 10, 2022) – A 22-month-old infant was killed Friday afternoon after a concrete mixer truck flew off an overpass and landed on top of an SUV with his family members in Houston, authorities reported.

Troopers say the infant, his twin sister, his mother, and grandmother were traveling in an SUV when the cement truck heading southbound on Beltway 8 East lost control and crashed through the barrier wall, and fell off the overpass. The truck landed on the SUV on the frontage road below. Authorities say the SUV was going through the intersection when the truck landed on it.

The infant was declared dead at the scene. The other three occupants were able to escape the crash.

The truck driver, a 36-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. The female driver told the deputies her truck began to slip before crashing through the wall barrier.

According to Harris County deputies, the truck driver did not show any signs of intoxication at the time of the accident, and the tires of the cement truck did not show signs of defect.

The incident remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
