Hardeman County, Texas (March 16, 2023) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the three people who killed on Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Hardeman County.

23-year-old Jack Martin Poole, of Lubbock, TX, 32-year-old Yojaner Garcia Lazo, of Hialeah, FL, and 33-year-old Reinier Perz Garcia, of Miami, FL, all died in the crash that happened at around 3:18 a.m. Sunday, March 12, on U.S. 287 near Goodlett.

Texas DPS said a semi, occupied by Lazo and Garcia, was traveling southbound on U.S. 287 while a pickup truck, driven by Poole, was in a center median crossover trying to make a left turn onto southbound U.S. 287.

The pickup reportedly failed to yield the right of way to the semi and was hit on its passenger side. After the crash, the pickup came to a rest in the center median on its driver’s side, while the semi came to a rest in the south ditch on its driver’s side.

The semi then burst into flames and was a total loss, with both occupants unable to exit the vehicle.

Lazo and Garcia were pronounced dead at the scene. Poole was taken to Quanah and then airlifted to a Lubbock hospital, where he died from his injuries.

DPS is investigating the incident.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
