Jacob Wiatrek Killed in La Vernia Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 539 near FM 2772

La Vernia, Texas (November 4, 2021) – One person was killed on October 27 in a traffic collision involving a school bus in La Vernia, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 7:00 a.m., on FM 539 near FM 2772.

DPS said a pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway when it crossed into the opposite lane on a curve and struck a southbound La Vernia Independent School District bus.

The pickup truck driver, Jacob Wayne Wiatrek, 26, of La Vernia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the two people on the bus was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, while the other was taken to Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville for further evaluation.

An investigation is underway.
