Javier Juarez-Ortiz Seriously Injured in Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 16 in Young County

Javier Juarez-Ortiz Airlifted after Young County Crash on State Highway 16 near Graham in Young County

Young County, Texas (September 9, 2022) – Javier Juarez-Ortiz of Graham was seriously injured after being involved in a crash that left one person dead in Young County on Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, on State Highway 16, just south of Graham.

DPS said a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup was heading northbound on State Highway 16 when it crossed over the center medina while negotiating a right curve and entered into the opposite lane.

A 2021 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup traveling southbound swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision but ended up colliding head-on with the Ford pickup.

Elio Miguel Gutierrez, 20, of Graham, who was the driver of the Ford pickup, was pronounced dead on the scene. His twin sister has set up a GoFundMe page for donations to help offset the family’s costs for Gutierrez’s burial as well as other expenses.

Juarez-Ortiz, who was the driver of the Dodge pickup truck, was taken to a Graham hospital and then airlifted to a Dallas hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The two drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles and were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The road conditions in the area were clear and dry and with a posted speed limit of 75 mph.

No other details were available.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
