Jeanene Upton Killed in Wood County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 80

Wood County, Texas (February 3, 2022) – The elderly woman who was injured last month in a two-vehicle crash in Wood County has died, according to the Texas DPS.

Jeanene R. Upton, 88, of Grand Saline, was pronounced dead on February 1.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m., January 13, on Highway 80, just west of Mineola.

DPS said Upton was driving a 2007 Ford Escape westbound in the right lane of the highway into a setting sun that impaired her visibility when she rear-ended an 18-wheeler driven by Damon W. Garner, 23, of Tyler, which was traveling in the right lane.

Upton was taken to a Tyler hospital, where she was pronounced dead on February 1.

Garner was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
