Jennifer Gonzalez Killed in Brazoria County Two-Vehicle Crash on SH-288; Rodrigo Cruz Arrested

Brazoria County, Texas (February 27, 2023) – A 19-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Brazoria County, according to the deputies.

The fatal crash happened around 4:27 a.m., February 26, on SH-288 near the intersection of FM 1462.

Deputies said 21-year-old Rodrigo Santa Cruz was driving a black Chevy pickup truck when he crashed into a GMC pickup truck that was pulled over on the side of the shoulder.

Jennifer Gonzalez, 19, was riding in the passenger seat of the Chevy and was taken to UTMB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cruz was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later arrested and charged with intoxication assault, a third-degree felony.

The crash remains under investigation.
