Jerry Brantley Killed, Colby McDaniel Injured in Rusk County Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 782 and SH 149

Rusk County, Texas – One person was killed and another was injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Rusk County, according to officials.

The fatal crash happened around 7:56 a.m., March 15, at the intersection of FM 782 and SH 149, 5.5 miles southeast of Tatum.

Officials said a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was stopped at the intersection while a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup was traveling southeast on SH 149.

The Chevrolet turned left and failed to yield to the Ford. The Ford then struck the Chevrolet on its left side.

The Chevrolet driver, 17-year-old Jerry Brantley, of Tatum, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Ford driver, Colby McDaniel, 23, of Kilgore, was taken to a Longview medical center for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
