Johnny Triplett ID’d as Man Killed in Reeves County Crash on Interstate 20 near Toyah

Reeves County, Texas (November 20, 2022) – The man who died Saturday in a traffic accident in Reeves County has been identified as Johnny Leeallen Triplett, 65, of Palm Springs, California.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal wreck happened at about 4:01 p.m.  Saturday, November 19 on Interstate 20 near mile marker 3, approximately 19 miles southwest of Toyah.

DPS said Triplett was driving a 2016 Kenworth 680 hauling a trailer on westbound on Interstate 20 while Jerry Don Scroggins, 48, was driving a 2019 Freightliner Columbia with trailer westbound and was stopped in the right lane due to backed-up traffic on the roadway.

Triplett failed to control his speed and rear-ended the Freightliner.

Triplett who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road conditions were wet.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
