Cody Mobley Killed in Head-On Crash on Hwy 87 in Newton County

Cody Mobley Killed in Newton County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 87 near County Road 3870

Newton County, Texas (November 4, 2023) – The man who was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision in Newton County has been identified as 19-year-old Cody Mobley of Newton, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened shortly before 7:00 a.m., November 3, on Highway 87 near County Road 3870.

DPS said Mobley was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban southbound while a 2020 Peterbilt 365 was traveling northbound.

Mobley traveled into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into the Peterbilt.

The Chevrolet then traveled into the westbound ditch and overturned.

Mobley was pronounced dead at the scene. Hunter Franck set up a GoFundMe to help Mobley’s wife and the children.

The Peterbilt driver, a man from Orange, was uninjured in the crash.

The crash closed the highway and it reopened shortly before noon.

The crash remains under investigation.
