Jose Alonso-Montelongo Killed in Ector County 18-Wheeler Crash on State Highway 302

Ector County, Texas (July 27, 2021) – Two people were killed early Saturday morning in a fiery 18-wheeler crash in Ector County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:30 a.m., July 24, on State Highway 302, 17 miles east of Kermit.

DPS said Gilberto Uresti, 68, of Horizon City, was driving an 18-wheeler eastbound on the highway while Jose Alonso-Montelongo, 58, of Del Rio, was driving an 18-wheeler westbound.

The 18-wheelers collided head-on in a construction site. Both trucks caught fire after the collision.

Both Uresti and Alonso-Montelongo were pronounced dead at the scene.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
