69-Year-Old Juan Francisco Esparza Killed in Ozona Pedestrian Accident at Avenue K and Avenue J

Ozona, Texas (March 25, 2020) – A man was fatally struck by a car Tuesday morning in Ozona, Crockett County, according to the DPS.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. March 24, at the intersection of Avenue K and Avenue J.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by David Leija, 43, of Ozona, was heading eastbound on Avenue K approaching the intersection while Juan Francisco Esparza,69, of Ozona, was crossing the intersection heading westbound.

Because of environmental obstruction from the sun in the eastern horizon, Leija struck Esparza at the intersection.

Esparza was taken to Ozona Family Health Center where he was pronounced dead by Dr Marcus Sims.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
