Juan Martinez Killed in Van Horn 7-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10

Van Horn, Texas (December 1, 2021) – One person was killed Sunday afternoon in a seven-vehicle crash about a mile east of Van Horn, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m., November 28, on Interstate 10.

DPS said Juan Lopez Martinez, 63, of El Paso, was driving a 2016 Peterbilt truck-tractor in a construction zone, and traffic was slowing and merging into one lane. He was driving behind the five other vehicles. He allegedly failed to control his speed and struck a 2017 Freightliner truck-tractor.

The collision caused a chain-reaction crash. A total of seven vehicles, including a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, were involved in the collision.

Lopez was killed in the crash.

Eight people were taken to Culberson County Hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
