Juan Vasquez Jr. Killed in San Juan Pedestrian Accident on Cesar Chavez Road near Owassa Road; Cristobal Trujillo Arrested

San Juan, Texas (January 2, 2022) – A teenager was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident in San Juan, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened around 12:06 a.m., January 1, on Cesar Chavez Road, south of Owassa Road.

Authorities said a Toyota Sienna was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck Juan Vasquez Jr., 17, of San Juan, who was attempting to cross the road.

Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sienna driver, Cristobal Trujillo, 31, of San Juan, fled the scene on foot after the accident. He was later arrested and was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail for manslaughter and failing to stop and render aid.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
