Justin Skaggs Seriously Injured in Lubbock Motorcycle Crash on 24th Street at Slide

Lubbock, Texas (July 1, 2021) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Wednesday night in a hit-and-run crash in West Lubbock, according to the police.

The accident happened around 9:35 p.m., June 30, at the intersection of 24th and Slide.

Police said Justin Skaggs, 32, was riding a motorcycle northbound in the right lane of Slide when he rear-ended an SUV that was traveling westbound in the 5100 block of 24th Street.

Skaggs was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

The SUV fled the scene, but less than five minutes later, it was involved in another crash at 19th and Frankford. Witnesses at the scene were able to get the license plate of the SUV, and the driver was located.

One person sustained minor injuries in the second crash.

An investigation is underway.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries.
