Kyle Perry Killed in San Antonio Motorcycle Accident on I-10; Jose Alfonso Hernandez Arrested

San Antonio, Texas (September 15, 2020) – The 18-wheeler driver who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist dead in March has been arrested, according to police.

Jose Alfonso Hernandez, 31, was arrested on Monday, September 14.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. March 2, in the 8200 block of Interstate 10 East, near Foster Road.

Police said Hernandez was driving an 18-wheeler in slow-moving traffic while Kyle Perry, 64, was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson.

Perry switched lanes in front of the 18-wheeler and was hit. The 18-wheeler also hit several other vehicles.

The force of the impact pushed Perry and his motorcycle across another lane, into a concrete barrier.

Perry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hernandez fled the scene after the crash. He has been arrested and has been charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. His bail was set at $100,000.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kyle Perry.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases the accident results in death.
