Lilia Angón and Sabino Angón Martinez Killed in Harris County Two-Vehicle Crash on Veterans Memorial at Moorebrook Drive

Harris County, Texas (November 29, 2021) – Two people were killed Saturday night in a DWI crash in north Harris County, according to the deputies.

The fatal crash happened around 10:50 p.m., November 27, at the intersection of Veterans Memorial and Moorebrook Drive.

Deputies said a 44-year-old man was driving a pickup truck northbound on Veterans Memorial at a high rate of speed when he T-boned the driver’s side of another pickup truck that was traveling through the intersection.

Both trucks landed in a ditch on the roadway after the collision.

The driver of the other truck, a 62-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 60-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital, where she later died. The daughter of the victims identified them as Lilia Angón and Sabino Angón Martinez.

A GoFundMe link has been set up to help pay for their funerals.

The 44-year-old driver was taken to Ben Taub hospital in critical condition. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated. His charges might be upgraded.

The crash remains under investigation.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
