Luis Barrera Killed in Pedestrian Crash at Mac Davis Lane and Avenue Q in Lubbock

Luis Barrera ID’d as Man Killed in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident at Mac Davis Lane and Avenue Q

Lubbock, Texas (June 17, 2023) – The man who died after he was struck by a vehicle Friday night at an intersection in Lubbock has been identified as Luis Barrera, 36.

The deadly crash happened at around 9:07 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the intersection of Mac Davis Lane and Avenue Q.

Authorities said Barrera was trying to flee from a deputy with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office after shoplifting from Walmart.

Barrera was running eastbound across Avenue Q when he was struck by a northbound pick-up truck driven by Sylvia Thomas, 29.

No other details were provided.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
