Matthew Patek Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-35 in New Braunfels

Matthew Patek Killed in New Braunfels Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-35 at FM 306

New Braunfels, Texas (April 21, 2021) – According to the police, one person was killed, and another was injured Tuesday afternoon in a chain-reaction crash in New Braunfels.

The fatal crash happened around 1:45 p.m., April 20, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 at the intersection of FM 306.

Police said traffic had begun to slow down when the driver of a Chevy Silverado 2500 pickup was unable to slow down and rear-ended two 18-wheelers.

The Silverado driver, Matthew Wade Patek, 39, of Mansfield, was killed in the crash.

One of the 18-wheeler drivers was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash closed the highway for about three hours. The highway has since been reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
