Michael Nelson Killed in Fiery Big Rig Crash on U.S. Highway 77 in Robinson

Michael Nelson Victim in Fatal Robinson Big Rig Crash on U.S. Highway 77 near Rosenthal Parkway

Robinson, Texas (September 11, 2019) – The man who was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery traffic collision that also left another person critically injured in Robinson has been identified as Michael Nelson, 73, of Axtell, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened at about 6:40 a.m. September 10, in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 77, just south of Rosenthal Parkway.

DPS said Nelson was driving a Freightliner truck southbound on the highway when a tire blew out.

Nelson then lost control of the truck and crashed into a northbound Ford SUV.

The truck overturned and then caught fire.

Nelson was declared dead at the scene.

The SUV driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The crash blocked the highway and traffic was diverted onto South Old Robinson Road.

The crash also downed power lines in the area.

An investigation is underway.
