Miguel Soto, Hermes Balderrama Killed in Head-On Collision on Interstate 10 in El Paso

Miguel Soto and Hermes Balderrama ID’d as 2 Victims Killed in El Paso Crash on Interstate 10 near Sierra Blanca

El Paso, Texas (July 7, 2023) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the two people who died following a head-on crash early Wednesday morning in El Paso as Miguel Angel Soto, 60, of Fort Hancock, and Hermes Ivan Balderrama, 39, of Horizon City.

The fatal crash happened at around 2:47 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, on Interstate 10 near Sierra Blanca.

The DPS said Balderrama was driving eastbound on Interstate 10 when his Ford F250 Pickup truck collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler that was heading westbound, driven by Soto.

Soto, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle. Soto and Balderrama were declared dead at the scene.

A 41-year-old man who was a passenger in the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

No further details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
