Muryl Slaydon Jr. Injured in Lumberton Crash on U.S. Highway 69 at Paula Drive Friday morning

Lumberton, Texas (October 7, 2022) – Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was injured after he was struck by a school bus Friday morning in Lumberton as Muryl Slaydon Jr., 60, of Kountze.

The deadly crash happened at around 6: 30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 69 at Paula Drive.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Slaydon was riding a bicycle outfitted with a flashing light southbound on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 69 when a Kountze Independent School District school bus hit him.

The school bus, driven by Patrick Goff, 45, of Kountze, was traveling eastbound on Paula Drive and allegedly ran a red light, causing the accident.

Slaydon was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in unknown condition. Goff was uninjured.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
