Nalaka Kavirathna Killed in Inez Train Crash on FM 444

Inez, Texas (November 6, 2022) – A man was killed early Friday morning in a train crash in Inez, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around midnight, November 4, on Farm-to-Market Road 444.

DPS said Nalaka Manoj Silva Kavirathna, 45, of Edna, and a Sri Lankan national, was stopped on the railroad tracks facing northbound on the highway when a northeast train struck the driver’s side of his 2013 Nissan Versa.

The impact pushed the Versa into a grassy ditch southbound.

Kavirathna was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information regarding the crash was available.

The crash remains under investigation.
