Noah Israel Calderon and Samantha Grace Handy Killed in San Patricio County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 796 at State Highway 188

San Patricio County, Texas (August 14, 2020) – According to authorities, an off duty Bexar County deputy and his fiancé were killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash in San Patricio County, east of Sinton.

The fatal crash happened at about 9:40 p.m., August 12, at the intersection of Farm Market 796 and State Highway 188.

Troopers said a truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling southbound on FM 796 while a Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on SH 188.

The driver of the semi-truck ran a stop sign at the intersection and was struck by the Tacoma.

20-year-old Noah Israel Calderon and 21-year-old Samantha Grace Handy, both from San Antonio, were ejected from the Tacoma. They were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Both Calderon and Handy were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 13-year-old male passenger in the Tacoma was airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in an unknown condition.

The semi-truck driver was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
