Patrick Maxwell ID’d Man Killed in Wichita County Crash on State Highway 79

Wichita County, Texas (April 21, 2023) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died in a traffic accident on Thursday evening in Wichita County as 53-year-old Patrick Maxwell. He was a coach for Petrolia CISD

The deadly crash happened at about 6:18 p.m. Thursday, April 20, on State Highway 79.

DPS said Maxwell was driving a Tahoe southbound on State Highway 79 while a pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was traveling northbound on State Highway 79.

The pickup crossed the center median to pass a vehicle he was following. Due to insufficient time and space between the pickup truck and the Tahoe, the 17-year-old boy took evasive action and swerved into the southbound shoulder of State Highway 79.

Maxwell also drove into the southbound shoulder to avoid hitting the pickup, but both vehicles ultimately collided head-on.

Maxwell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup driver was taken to United Regional, where he was listed in serious condition. His 18-year-old passenger sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was also taken to United Regional.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
