Petra Casas Killed in San Patricio County Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 359 at IH-37

San Patricio County, Texas (March 2, 2022) – One person was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in San Patricio County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 3:00 p.m., February 26, on SH 359 at the intersection of Interstate Highway 37, just east of Mathis.

Authorities said a Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on the IH-37 frontage road while a Toyota 4Runner was traveling northbound on SH 359.

The Camry driver was attempting to cross over the intersection and was struck by the 4Runner after the sedan failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection.

The driver of the Camry, 87-year-old Petra Lopez Casas, of George West, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
