Phillip Ackal and Pauline Ackal Killed in Leon County Plane Crash near Hilltop Lakes Stables

Leon County, Texas (September 21, 2020) – Four people were killed in a plane crash Sunday morning in Leon County, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 10:45 a.m., September 20, near Hilltop Lakes stables.

DPS said the Piper PA-46 aircraft departed from Horseshoe Bay and was scheduled to land at Natchitoches, Louisiana, when it started to have engine issues. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing at Hilltop Lakes Airport, but the plane crashed near Hilltop Lakes stables.

The pilot had reported to the FAA that the plane was having engine problems before the crash, officials said.

Four people were killed in the crash. They have been identified as Kenneth Hix, 59, and Missy Lynn Hix, 59, of Lafayette, Phillip Ackal, 59, and Pauline Ackal of Natchitoches, 58, Louisiana.

The plane is registered out of Lafayette, Louisiana, and was built in 1984. The owner is KMAC BRAVO, LLC.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
