Police Officer Struck by DUI Driver on U.S. 287 in Fort Worth; Oscar Barragan Arrested

Police Officer Seriously Injured in Fort Worth Pedestrian Accident on U.S. 287; Oscar Barragan Arrested

Fort Worth, Texas (November 9, 2019) – A Fort Worth police officer was struck by a suspected drunken driver Friday morning in Fort Worth, according to officials.

The accident took place around 2:45 a.m. on northbound U.S. 287 service road near the Harmon Road exit.

Police said the female officer was working at the scene of an earlier crash, where she was picking up cones and flares when a vehicle hit her and the patrol car.

The suspect vehicle went off into the ditch, and the driver, Oscar Barragan, 31, got out of the car and ran from the scene.

The officer was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Barragan was located at a nearby field and apprehended. He received medical attention and was later taken into Tarrant County Jail. He faces a 3rd-degree felony of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

An investigation is underway.
