Rachel Derese Killed in Port Arthur Pedestrian Accident on Highway 73

Port Arthur, Texas (August 20, 2020) – A 46-year-old woman was fatally hit by a car early Wednesday morning in Port Arthur, according to police.

The deadly accident happened around 4:20 a.m., August 19, in the 3900 block of Texas Highway 73.

Police said Rachel Derese was struck by a westbound vehicle on the highway.

Derese was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident closed the highway for several hours. It was reopened just before 8:45 a.m.

An investigation is underway.
