Sergeant Fernandez Injured in Von Ormy Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35

Von Ormy, Texas (March 21, 2021) – A Von Ormy police officer was injured early Saturday morning in a head-on collision in Von Ormy, according to police.

The crash happened around 2:41 a.m., March 20, on Interstate 35 at New Laredo Highway.

Police said Sgt. Fernandez was driving southbound on the interstate when he came over a blind hill and crashed head-on into a stationary red SUV.

The impact caused the police car to catch fire.

Sgt. Fernandez was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The SUV driver, a 37-year-old man, fled the scene before the police arrived. He was later and taken into custody.

Charges are pending an investigation.

The police are investigating the crash.
