Travis County, Texas (November 21, 2023) – A teenager was killed and his sister was injured Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in east Travis County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:14 a.m., November 18, in the 10100 block of Decker Lane.

DPS said 16-year-old Shuaib Shobande was driving his 14-year-old sister, Karimot Shobande, to her basketball practice at Manor High School. He lost control of his 2011 Toyota on a curve, veered into the southbound lane, and collided with a 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Shuaib, who was a Vandegrift High School student, was killed in the crash.

Karimot was taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center for treatment.

A GoFundMe account will be used to cover the costs of Shuaib’s funeral and memorial, medical expenses for Karimot, and transportation costs.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
