Steven Anthony Hernandez Killed in El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash at Joe Battle and Edgemere

El Paso, Texas (May 26, 2023) – A man was killed early Sunday morning in a DWI crash in El Paso’s far East Side, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 2:53 a.m., May 21, at the intersection of Joe Battle and Edgemere boulevards.

Police said Valeria Mena, 24, was driving a black 2020 Jeep Wrangler northbound on Joe Battle. She ran a red light at the intersection and hit a white 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour driven by Destiny Anastasia Richardson, 24, of Northeast El Paso, which was heading eastbound on Edgemere.

Steven Anthony Hernandez, 28, of East El Paso, was a passenger in the Honda and was killed in the crash.

Mean was found to be intoxicated and was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter. She was being held at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown on a $76,000 bond.  

El Paso County court and jail records show Mena with two previous arrests for driving while intoxicated, in January 2020 and May 6, 2022.

The police are investigating the crash.
