Athens, Texas (June 3, 2020) – Three people were injured Saturday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Athens, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. May 30, at the intersection of FM 2494 and FM 753.

DPS said a 53-year-old Malakoff resident was driving a silver 2016 Dodge pickup westbound on FM 2494 while a 26-year-old Athens man was driving a silver 2003 Dodge pickup southbound on FM 753.

The 53-year-old driver ran a red light at the intersection, and the two vehicles collided.

The 2016 Dodge pickup truck came to rest in the westbound ditch of FM 753 while the 2003 Dodge pickup came to rest in a field on the west side of FM 753.

Both drivers and a passenger in the 2003 Dodge pickup truck were taken to UT Health with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

We hope the injured victims recover quickly.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
