Tyler Lopez, Alicia Lopez, Kylee Lopez and Remi Lopez Hospitalized after Highway 7 Crash near CR 436 in Bruceville-Eddy

Bruceville-Eddy, Texas (May 11, 2023) – A Bruceville-Eddy family of four was hospitalized after being involved in a deadly head-on collision on Sunday in Bruceville-Eddy.

The crash happened at around 3:55 p.m. Sunday, May 7, on Highway 7 near CR 436.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Taylor Defrees, 29, of Marlin, was traveling westbound on Highway 7 when, for an unknown reason, the Equinox drove onto the wrong side of the roadway and collided head-on with a Ford F-150, occupied by Tyler Lopez, Alicia Lopez, 8-year-old Kylee Lopez and Remi Lopez, 6.

Defrees was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Tyler sustained a broken pelvis, and Alicia suffered internal bleeding. Kylee had a neck and spine fracture, while Remi sustained a broken rib and a small brain bleed. All four patients were transported to the hospital.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
