Yolanda Gaona ID’d as Woman Killed in Jim Wells County Crash on U.S. 281 and CR-116

Jim Wells County, Texas (May 20, 2023) –  The Texas Department of Public Safety officials have identified the woman who died following a two-vehicle crash  Tuesday night in Jim Wells County, nearby Alice, as Yolanda Gaona, 72.

The deadly crash took place in the area of U.S. 281 and CR-116 on Tuesday, May 16.

DPS said Gaona was driving a GMC Terrain eastbound on CR-116 when she failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and struck a Kenworth Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer.

Gaona was transported to a hospital in Corpus Christi, where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning, while the front seat passenger of the GMC Terrain was taken to a hospital in Alice in critical condition.

The two rear-seat passengers of the GMC Terrain, both children, were both ejected from the vehicle upon the impact. One of those children, a 10-year-old child, died at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
