Deputies said they attempted to pull over Christopher Rodriguez-Cerda, 17, who was speeding in a black Mercedes on I-35 southbound, but he went onto the access road while driving more than 70 mph.

Deputies managed to pull Rodriguez-Cerda over, but he drove away and steered toward one deputy. He then stopped again, but he reversed and drove onto Long Street, and the deputies pursued him.

Rodriguez-Cerda then turned onto Thorpe Street and ran a red light at the Robbie Lane intersection, and hit another car.

Rodriguez-Cerda and the other driver were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

Rodriguez-Cerda was arrested after being released from the hospital and was taken to Hays County Jail. He is facing multiple charges, including felony evading and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with information about the chase is asked to call HCSO at (512) 393-7896.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
