One Injured in Mesquite Two-Vehicle Crash at Carmack Street and Main Street; Officer David Herrera Arrested

Mesquite, Texas – According to the police, an off-duty Rowlett police officer was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a crash on Sunday in Mesquite.

The crash happened just after 5:00 a.m., January 21, at the intersection of Carmack Street and Main Street.

Police said Rowlett officer David Herrera ran a stop sign at the intersection and his vehicle was struck by another vehicle.

Herrera’s vehicle then hit an electric pole, knocking it down.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital. 

Herrera was arrested after being released from the hospital on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation which is ongoing.
