One Seriously Injured in Athens Train Crash near Wofford Street and Edmonson Street

Athens, Texas (September 26, 2023) – One person was seriously injured Monday morning in a train crash in northeast Athens, according to officials.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m., September 25, near the intersection of North Wofford Street and East Edmonson Street.

Officials said a Union Pacific train collided with a vehicle near the intersection.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to an Athens hospital with serious injuries.

No train crew was injured in the crash.

The officials are investigating the crash.
