One Killed, Clarence Whitaker Injured in Marion County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 43

Marion County, Texas (August 24, 2019) – One person was killed and another was injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Marion County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 1:40 p.m., August 23, on Highway 43, just south of Lewis Chapel Road.

DPS said a Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on the highway when it rear-ended a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Clarence Whitaker, 61, of Jefferson.

The impact caused the Malibu to go into a side skid and travel off the roadway before rolling over severally, while the Ford traveled off the road to the right, where it hit a tree and caught on fire.

The Ford driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.

Whitaker was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
