Three Injured in El Paso Three-Vehicle Crash on North Desert Boulevard at Redd Road; Andres Gilberto Menchaca Arrested

El Paso, Texas (December 16, 2020) – Three people were injured Monday evening in a DUI crash in El Paso, according to police.

The crash occurred on December 14, in the 5550 block of North Desert Boulevard at Redd Road.

Police said Andres Gilberto Menchaca, 38, of El Paso, was driving a pickup truck when he rear-ended a car that was stopped at a traffic light. The force of the impact pushed the car into another vehicle.

Three people were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the victims had serious injuries.

Menchaca was arrested on a charge of intoxication assault with a motor vehicle. He was being held in the downtown jail on a $75,000 bond.

The crash closed North Desert Boulevard between Redd Road and Thorn Avenue.

Motorists were urged to use Thorn as an alternative route.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.
