Three Injured in El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash on Westside Drive at Borderland; Luis Hernandez Arrested

El Paso, Texas (March 21, 2022) – Three people were injured on Saturday in a hit-and-run crash in El Paso’s Westside, according to the police.

The crash happened around 9:11 a.m., March 19, in the 6300 block of Westside Drive at the intersection of Borderland.

Police said a green Ford truck was traveling southbound on Westside while a 2007 Nissan Frontier was traveling westbound on Borderland and turning right onto Westside.

The Ford failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the Nissan.

The Ford driver, 25-year-old Luis Hernandez, fled the scene on foot but was found hiding in the backyard of a nearby residence. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Nissan driver and passenger were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The passenger had serious injuries.

Hernandez was later released from the hospital and booked into jail. He has been charged with an accident involving injury or death on two counts and was being held at the El Paso County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

An investigation is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
